The Gordon Research Conferences have been in operation since 1947 as a non-profit organization that arranges and administers scientific conferences. The conferences are named in honor of Neil E. Gordon whose idea they were. David Perlman (1920-1980) received B.A., M.S. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin. From 1945-1967 he worked as a microbiologist or microbial biochemist for a number of commercial firms; from 1967 until his death he was Professor of Pharmaceutical Biochemistry at the School of Pharmacy, University of Wisconsin-Madison, serving as Dean from 1968-1975.
